We are searching for a Mid-level Scientist or Engineer with experience in Fisheries and Aquatic Biology and all aspects of compliance with Section 316(b) of the Clean Water Act related to cooling water intake structures. Requirements for the position include experience in 316(b) compliance, as well as one or more of the following; fish impingement/entrainment studies; fish passage or return systems, fish survival/mortality studies, NPDES permitting compliance, baseline fish population studies, fish protection technologies, or desktop assessments. The ideal candidate will have fundamental knowledge of fish biology (marine and freshwater) as well as basic scientific and engineering principles related to fish protection technologies utilized at cooling water intake structures. The position may require travel to project assignments located throughout the U.S.
 
Employee will be expected to actively participate in developing NPDES permit applications/renewals and 316(b) compliance with permit conditions. Conduct fish impact assessments (impingement/entrainment studies) using a variety of sampling techniques (e.g., electrofishing, otter trawls, ichthyoplankton tows, water quality, GPS data collection, etc.).  Develop impact analysis reports associated with NPDES or 316(b) compliance, which may include; Essential Fish Habitat (EFH) Assessments, Biological Assessments (BA) in compliance with the Endangered Species Act, baseline fish population assessments, demonstration studies, equivalent adult modeling, etc. Provide oversight of project personnel, subcontractors, or laboratories. Successful candidate will also be responsible for business development and proposal writing for existing/new commercial energy, manufacturing, or industrial clients. Frequent client interaction, and occasional coordination with state/federal resource agencies. Assist with and lead project fieldwork, data analysis, literature reviews, and reporting for a variety of natural resource projects, or other un-related projects, as appropriate.
Job Requirements :
BS degree in Environmental Science/Biology/Engineering with at least 5 years of related professional experience; or MS degree in Environmental Science/Biology/Engineering with at least 3 years of related professional experience required. Must have an understanding in developing and executing various aspects of 316(b) compliance projects within the commercial energy or manufacturing sectors, as well as experience with one or more of the following; fish impingement/entrainment studies; fish passage or return systems, fish survival/mortality studies, NPDES permitting compliance, baseline fish population studies, fish protection technologies, or desktop assessments. Specific experience in power station operations and/or cooling water intake structure design or operations is desired. Specific experience in power station operations and/or cooling water intake structure design or operations is desired.
